Stand By for The Surge - 19 November 2008
STANDBY FOR THE SURGE!
The Surge is the name chosen by visitors to the Project Rainbow website for the project’s drop-in in St Giles Road. And the Surge opens its doors for the first time to young people on the evening of Monday 1st December and then every Thursday and Monday from there on, with further evenings being added as we develop our volunteer base. And to give everyone else a chance to come and have a look to see what we are all so excited about there is an open day on Saturday 6th December from 10 till 4pm – we would love to meet you and show you around.
The team behind Project Rainbow have been overwhelmed by the level of support for young people being shown by so many in the town and villages, both residents and business people. There has been so much kindness shown and real time and money put into the project that it is truly inspiring. And not only that! Several young people have been getting stuck in to working at the Surge demonstrating a level of commitment to the project that has surprised us all. We are now more certain than ever that Project Rainbow will make a tremendous difference to life for our young people.
In particular we would like to thank the following people, organisations and businesses for their outstanding support: Rosie Gibb Manager of The Surge for her boundless energy and enthusiasm, James Ball Carpets; The Italian Job, Richard Sharp Plumber; Tony Graves; Terry Cook; Alex Facey; Watton Blinds and Awnings; Watton Town Council; Watton Relief In Need Charity, Ovington Parish Council, Ovington Fuel Trust, Rudlings DIY, Watton Churches Together, Watton Methodists Bright Hour, Mrs Tolfts, Adcocks, Edwards, Mullengers, Breckland Funeral Services, Ross Lucas, James Chapman, Amy Laws, Jess Bennett, Josie Lucas, Tanya Langley, Daniel Smith, Rhiannan Smith, Marion Adcock, Rachel Tissington, Anne Garrett, Sgt Jervis, PC Hinchliffe, all of the PCSO’s, and a host of others. What a testament to the spirit of the people of Wayland!
The “Ghostbusters” Film Night, our first, somewhat experimental, attempt at a film night on Halloween was organised in partnership with Norfolk Constabulary and was felt to be a very successful. We are very grateful to them for their support – practical and financial. The result of all that effort was a marked drop in recorded incidents in Watton on that evening and a reduced level of anti-social behaviour.
