Project Rainbow is an ambitious plan to regenerate the recreational facilities for young and old alike in Watton, its surrounding villages and the wider area of Norfolk.
There are two phases to the project, with phase one addressing the absence of both social and recreational facilities for young people in our district. We want to provide a Town Centre drop-in and an activity centre housing a broad range of adventurous and exciting play activities which will be accessible to all young people.
The Project plans to purchase the former Doctors’ Surgery in the centre of Watton for adaptation into a drop-in centre. The Surge it is located in an area where young people already like to congregate, its primary role will be to provide a safe, managed environment where young people can meet and socialise.
The second element is to construct a large activity centre called ‘The Barn’, to be situated on the outskirts of town and which will provide outstanding recreational facilities. The internal design concept of The Barn will provide a flexible space encompassing creative arts and recreational activities; some of which currently take place at inappropriate locations e.g. skateboarding & BMX. With further socialising and meeting space, this venue also offers new activities such as roller and ice skating, climbing, caving, team building, performance arts, music and cinema.
Phase 2 aims to provide, for the first time in our area, a Town Park that will provide the opportunity for free play, rest and relaxation for all ages in our district. The plan is for large open grassed areas interspersed with wooded areas; also planned is a large artificial boating lake and beach area to provide somewhere to go for everyone on a warm (and not so warm!) summer's day.
You can find out more details about the three phases of the project in this site and we want you to tell us what you think! We want to know if you think we have got it right but more importantly, we want to know if you think we have got it wrong and we want you to tell us why!
